Edgewood
This is one of several Lake Geneva Lakefront Estates that was built in 1906. It was built for Edward F. Swift, the son of Gustavus Swift, who established the famous Swift Meat Packing Company. The company was founded in 1885 and was the first meat packing company in Chicago. The original name of this Lake Geneva Lakefront Estate was Villa Hortensia, named for Edward’s wife Hortense.
More recently the home has been called Edgewood and is the summer home of a prominent Chicago businessman. An interesting note about this property is the fact that the famous architect Howard Van Doren Shaw designed this mansion, and noted landscape architect Jens Jensen did the original landscaping. Edgewood is one of the most beautiful Lakefront Homes on Lake Geneva and joy to look at.
